before/after-care

For the best results make sure to carefully read over our before and after-care steps below

If you plan on any of the following services, heres a list of how far in advance they should be done before getting spray tanned

  • Manicures/Pedicures  (24hrs. before)
  • Massages, Sauna/Steam room  (24hrs. before)
  • Shaving  (24hrs. before)
  • Waxing  (48 hrs. before)
  • Facial treatments  (48 hrs. before)
  • Skin treatments  (48 hrs. before)
  • Cryotherapy treatments  (48 hrs. before)

BEFORE

When prepping for the tan; one of the most important steps is EXFOLIATING! Ideally the night before your appointment. This creates a smooth surface for the application, ensuring flawless and even coverage  This can be done using any scrub, body buffer, or body brush.

(if you don't have a scrub at home or just want to try a free DIY hack; You can add sugar/salt/or coffee grounds to any liquid body wash to create your own scrub!)

DAY OF APPOINTMENT

  1.   Make sure to come in with NO products on your skin. Any products left on skin will create a barrier for the tanning solution. Which can cause an uneven application, or develop splotchy.
  2.  Wear/bring loose clothing to put on after your airbrush tan. Clothing that is too tight or rubs skin can cause streaking in your tan.
  3.  Undress to your comfort level (keep in mind whatever you leave on WILL create a tan line)
  4.   Avoid getting wet, sweating, or rubbing on skin while tanning solution is developing.
  5.   When its time to rinse; be sure to use warm (not hot) water. You will see some color come off during your first shower, DON'T PANIC! These are just the initial bronzers in the solution. Your color will continue to develop up to 8 hours after rinsing.

AFTER-CARE

Keeping skin moisturized with an oil-free/alcohol-free lotion will improve the appearance of your spray tan, make it last longer, and ensure it fades evenly.

Things to avoid

  • Scrubs, oils, & products with harsh chemicals
  • Long hot showers/baths
  • Chlorine, salt water

AFTER-CARE

PRODUCTS TO AVOID

Please refrain from the following products as they are known to fade and ruin a sunless tan:

Loofahs, washcloths, baby oil, mineral oil, massage oils, bug sprays, anti aging products that exfoliate, Dove products (creates skin barriers and your tan will not take) alcohol based toners, astringents (cleansing agents). Any products containing AHA’s or BHA’s or RETIN, accutane and salicylic acids can cause issues. Avoid long swims in pools and oceans as the chlorine and salt water can cause fading (bromine can cause fading).

A spray tan does not protect your from the sun, so make sure you use a sunscreen, I carry one designed for airbrush tan protection.  Please consult with me if you are not sure if a product is safe for your tan.

Some medications can effect the tan as well.

Poor preparation will result in a poor tan,

Remember, that the spray tan is on the outer layer of the skin, anything that exfoliates will remove the tan.
